As the year winds down and we prepare for the holidays, it’s a great time to reflect back on what we have accomplished the past year and get clear on what we want for the new cycle of life. January 1 will be a marker for a new beginning, a fresh start.

Personally, I’m not much of a resolution setter. I like to look at it instead as an opportunity to clear out the old and invite the new. A time to reflect on what I have outgrown and what I want to grow into.

If you’re in the entertainment business already, you know how important it is to keep reinventing yourself. To make sure you are bringing your A game each and every day. And you need to remain flexible. The industry keeps changing and it if you aren’t strong and flexible, it can snap you like a dried up twig. It takes a pro to not get stale or bitter with all the disappointment and rejection that each of us face. It can be a very exhausting experience if you’re not well versed in keeping up with the times.

So this is a great time to really get clear. How do you want to represent yourself? What are your strengths? What are your goals? Who do you want to be? Or a better question is who are you REALLY and how can you grow into your best authentic self?

It may sound silly to some but it’s of the utmost importance to get very clear and as detailed as possible in your mind. After all, if you don’t know what you want, how do you expect the universe to deliver it? Some of my friends might say “God knows what’s in my heart” and while I actually do agree, I would point out that the “Law of Attraction” proves over and over that it’s our words, thoughts and actions that dictate what shows up in our lives…a brilliant spiritual law that could only have been crafted by God himself.

To those interested in learning more on that, I highly recommend researching The Law of Attraction. I’m particularly fond of Dr Joe Dispenza and Wayne Dyer but a simple google search is enough to start cracking your mind open…and creating a whole new world for yourself IF you are willing to fully commit to the law. Easier said than done, believe me!

Years ago, I was lunching with a friend, complaining that I wasn’t getting the opportunities I wanted and felt I was ready for. They asked me to do a little exercise. I was instructed to close my eyes and imagine what I wanted my life to look like in 5 years. How much money I was making, what did my job look like, my relationships look like, the type of house I was living in, etc. And I thought….”No problem, I know exactly what I want” but when I sat down to do it, I was shocked! It was much harder than expected. It took me some time to realize I had these sneaky little feelings that certain things were too difficult to achieve or that I was somehow unworthy of them. I had no idea those destructive thoughts were in me. They are in most of us at some level and they don’t go away by sprinkling magic fairy dust. It’s takes some work.

After years of practicing this, I will tell you this….somethings happen right away, others take time, a lot of time. You can’t be attached to outcome. The key is to stay clear and grounded and persistent. Try it and see what happens! What I’ve learned over time is that instead of focusing on exactly the job or relationship you want…it’s much healthier and more effective to focus on the qualities of the job or relationship you are pining for. Personally, I want to work with people that I love, trust and am inspired by. I want a job that fulfills my passion for creativity and self expression. A salary that allows me to travel to exotic lands.See where I’m going with this?

The other key to having a successful long lasting career is a positive attitude. Next time you feel jealous that someone else got your part, try practicing support and gratitude. We could all use a little more of that, even those who seemingly “have it all”. When it comes to the Law of Attraction, gratitude is your best friend. A little kindness and encouragement goes a long way and I think we would all agree that this industry could use a little more of that and a lot less of the other. It used to be you could claw your way to the top, but those times are changing. And now it’s time for the good guys and girls to have their day in the sun. So when it’s time to sit on Santa’s lap, how will you answer, “Have you been a good girl or boy?”

As we rapidly approach the holiday “break”, many of us are racing to tie up loose ends before Dec 25. I know I am, so I’m gonna wind this puppy down. There’s a lot to do and it’s nearing that time that when we can finally slow down and breath in some holiday cheer, fill our bellies with egg nog and gather up the strength to start all over again. So let’s make the most of the redux. Let’s bring our best versions of ourselves and encourage others around us to do the same. Together we can make 2019 a year of great achievements.

To all my friends out there, I wish you a beautiful and fulfilling holiday, with plenty of time to reflect, the clarity to see your highest path and the inspiration to follow your greatest dreams!
